Sleep Like a Yogi

How often do you find yourself stressed out, exhausted or overwhelmed at the end of the day?

The way you spend your evenings has a massive impact on your life. Creating a mindful evening routine is a simple & easy way to calm down, relax & shift your focus away from your day. But it is often overlooked due to busy schedules & chaotic lifestyles.

By creating a mindful evening routine, you’ll improve your overall quality of sleep, boost your overall well-being & wake up feeling refreshed and ready for another day!

It’s super important for your long-term physical & mental well-being to really carve out some time each night to relax, unwind & de-stress.

What is a mindful evening routine?

A mindful evening routine is a set of actions, performed at the same time each evening, to create more relaxed feelings and bring on restful sleep.

These actions might include things like

  • Reading a book

  • Journaling

  • Meditating

  • Listening to relaxing music

What does your evening routine look like? If you don’t have one, what does a typical evening look like for you?

A consistent bedtime routine gives us chance to reflect on our experiences throughout the day & make a plan for tomorrow.

It helps to clear our head & cultivate a calm mind – this is especially important if you often feel anxious or have too much on your mind.

Creating a mindful evening routine can have profound effects on other parts of our life too – our focus improves, we are able to concentrate more and make better decisions. It can also help us to manage stress, anxiety, depression & insomnia.

How can I create my own mindful evening routine?

Your mindful evening routine needs to be flexible enough to fit around your personal needs. So experiment with what works best for you, start small (around 15 mins is fine!) and build more into it, if you have time.

Some ideas for your mindful evening routine

  • Create a cosy & peaceful space – clean & clutter free spaces can help you relax and unwind after a stressful day

  • Lower the lights – dimming the lights can help you fall asleep easier and encourages relaxation

  • Aromatherapy – scent is a powerful tool to help calm you down, that has been used for 1000s of years. Choose a fragrance that evokes feelings of comfort, safety, love & tranquility

  • Yoga, Yoga Nidra, Pranayama & Meditation can all help you slow down & relax

  • Go screen free! – screen time just before bed can disrupt our sleep & disturb our minds

  • Try a herbal tea – lavender, chamomile, valerian root & passion flower can all help you relax and get ready for a great night’s sleep

Give a mindful evening routine a try & let me know how you get on!
